Whale Moon Spell was a participatory performance set within a transformed iteration of the installation Under the Mirrored Moon at Cool Change Contemporary during the May 2021 full moon and lunar eclipse.
Combining elements of spell-work, meditation and performance, Whale Moon Spell experimented with ways of strengthening connections to ourselves, to each other and to the wider environment around us.
The evening featured a guided meditation that explored themes of love, interspecies connection, magic and the cosmos. It incorporated aspects of composer Pauline Oliveros’s Sonic Meditations (1974) with bio-acoustician Roger Payne’s album Songs of the Humpback Whale (1970). The evening concluded with homemade rose-flavored tea and biscuits and conversation.
